for Damaging Winds
for Furneaux Islands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts of Western and North East Forecast Districts.

DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS WEDNESDAY
A deep low passing south of Tasmania this morning is bringing strong, gusty westerly winds across the state. The winds will gradually ease during the afternoon as the low moves away.
DAMAGING WINDS for the following areas:
Furneaux Islands, Western, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North East, East Coast, Central Plateau and Midlands
DAMAGING WESTERLY WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts of up to 100 km/h, are possible across southern and central Tasmania, as well as parts of the east and the Furneaux Islands, during Wednesday. Stronger gusts in excess of 110 km/h are possible across high terrain and exposed coastal locations.
Damaging winds will gradually ease during the day, with the damaging winds mostly contracting to the Central Plateau and the far south of Tasmania by mid afternoon.
Locations which may be affected include Swansea, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.
Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Central North district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.
Maximum gusts recorded in the past 12 hours include:
161 km/h at Maatsuyker Island
141 km/h at kunanyi/Mt Wellington
113 km/h at Cape Bruny
98 km/h at Warra
96 km/h at Hobart
89 km/h at Maria Island

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
* Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEDT Wednesday.
